Great California Shake-Out

On Thursday, October 20th at 10:20 a.m.* millions of people will participate in the 2011 Great California ShakeOut!

What is it?: In 2010, more than 7.9 million Californians practiced Drop, Cover, and Hold On to practice how they will protect themselves during earthquakes, and increased their overall preparedness.

Steps included developing Family Emergency Plans, securing hazards in the home, and of course, the DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON technique.

Your TO DO: Register for the ShakeOut and practice DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON.

During the drill (or whenever it is appropriate for your schedule) practice these 3 simple steps.
  • DROP to the ground (before the earthquake drops you!),
  • Take COVER by getting under a sturdy desk or table, and
  • HOLD ON to it until the shaking stops.
